Student Community Service Calendar

Fall Semester (Sept–Nov)

September

  • Volunteer at Gleaners Food Bank (sorting & packing food for families in need).
  • Neighborhood Clean-Up Day – students pick up litter & beautify a local park.

October

  • Serve meals at a Detroit homeless shelter or soup kitchen.
  • Tree Planting or Garden Day with local nonprofits like Greening of Detroit.

November

  • Thanksgiving Meal Prep & Distribution for families in need.
  • Clothing & blanket drive → students collect, sort, and deliver items to shelters.

 Winter Semester (Dec–Feb)

December

  • Adopt-a-Family Christmas Gift Drive (partner with a parish or charity).
  • Visit a senior center – lead carols, prayer, or distribute holiday cards.

January

  • Volunteer with Capuchin Soup Kitchen (meal prep/serving).
  • Snow Shoveling Service – students clear sidewalks/driveways for elderly neighbors.

February

  • Valentine’s Cards for Hospital Patients – make and deliver uplifting messages.
  • Assist at Forgotten Harvest (food rescue organization).

 

 Spring Semester (Mar–May)

March

  • Habitat for Humanity Youth Build Day (painting, landscaping, light construction).
  • Community Garden Prep – help local churches or urban farms prepare for spring planting.

April

  • Earth Day Tree Planting & Park Clean-Up with Greening of Detroit or Belle Isle Conservancy.
  • Serve meals at a homeless outreach ministry.

May

  • Volunteer with Ronald McDonald House Detroit (meals & care packages for families).
  • Riverwalk Beautification Day – clean, plant flowers, and restore the Detroit Riverfront.

Summer Semester (Jun–Aug)

June

  • Summer Food Distribution with Gleaners or Forgotten Harvest.
  • Help maintain community gardens in Detroit (watering, harvesting).

July

  • Homeless Care Kit Drive – assemble kits with toiletries, snacks, bottled water, scripture cards.
  • Volunteer at a local animal shelter (feeding, cleaning, enrichment).

August

  • Back-to-School Supply Drive for underserved students.
  • Urban Farm Harvest Project – pick, pack, and deliver fresh produce to shelters.

 Parent Reassurance

  • Every month, students experience faith in action — serving people directly and caring for God’s creation.
  • Builds compassion, leadership, and teamwork while strengthening their college applications.
  • Reinforces the RF Prep mission: “Nurturing mind, body, and spirit.”
